"Over fifty, fat and frumpy, that USED to be me!

Three years ago a simple fall changed my life. I was reasonably fit for my age, was a member of a gym and regularly went fell walking in the Lake District. One day at work my foot slipped and I fell. A fractured kneecap with complications left me with severely limited mobility and although I received physio for a number of months, I never regained any real strength or control in the leg. I kept up my gym membership in order to swim and continue the exercises recommended by the hospital but there was no improvement. I was resigned to the fact that my fell walking days were over and the weight I had gained from inactivity were permanent. I decided I was wasting money on gym fees as I was totally unmotivated.

When I informed the gym that I was canceling my membership they suggested that before making that decision I should try a session with a personal trainer and arranged for me to meet Nigel Herold. I have to admit that this was not something that I would normally do. I thought he would look at my leg, suggest a few exercises and tell me to come back to report progress. How wrong I was!

From the very first consultation I was hooked! I was made to feel totally at ease and he made me think that it was possible for me to improve. He did a full health assessment and discussed lifestyle and personal goals. From this first complementary session he created a programme that would fit into my working week, be achievable and above all be enjoyable and show results.

I look forward to every session and the time with him in the gym just seems to fly by. The programme is a combination of exercises involving rehabilitation for the knee and also improvements to CV fitness, mobility, muscle tone & symmetry, posture, balance and flexibility. Nigel keeps a detailed record of each session so that progress can be tracked and is totally committed to ensuring that I am happy with our sessions.
 
What has changed? Well my knee is almost back to 100% and
I just recently climbed my first hill in the Lake District since my fall.  My fitness and blood pressure have improved so much that my doctor has taken me off medication. So far I’ve lost a stone and half in weight, but actually a lot more than that in fat as my muscle tone and shape have changed so much I’ve dropped 2 sizes. As an unexpected bonus my posture has noticeably improved too.

Friends and family now constantly comment on the changes that they see in me. This has not just been about fitness but about self-esteem and confidence.

This year I shall be fifty-five, fit and fabulous – thanks to a chance meeting with Nigel Herold.

“I first made an appointment with Nigel after a physiotherapist advised a deep tissue massage to relieve a problem with my shoulder. My initial shoulder injury was the result of repetitive strain, but it was made worse following a mastectomy. After the first session I was amazed at the difference that the massage had made with a noticeable reduction in the pain and increased movement. "When I first contacted Nige, he assessed me and correctly identified the problem as a SI joint subluxation which needed specialist manipulation.  He recommended I see a Chiropractor as he said the massage would only provide temporary relief for this condition. He didn't charge me for his time and helped me locate a suitable Chiropractor.  After my adjustments the sharp pains eased but I was left with a persistent tightness so I tried a massage with Nige.
